Paul and I are both James Bond film fans, with Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan having been our favorite Bonds until Daniel Craig appeared and completely revamped the Bond-scape in Casino Royale, the 2nd big-screen realization of Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel of the same name. With Jason Bourne having been on the scene for some time already, it was time James Bond stepped it up. A romantic James Bond? With feelings, martial arts skills and a sense of humor? And not only that, he’s more discerning about his martinis than any Bond we’ve ever seen. His whirlwind romance with Vesper Lynd, though tragic, is beautifully captured in his creation of a cocktail which he later names for her as, “The Vesper… because once you’ve tasted it, you won’t drink anything else.”
The Vesper - as written by Ian Fleming for James Bond:
“Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?” - Casino Royale, Chapter 7
Oh yes, pour into a large champagne goblet. Got it?
Where did you get the goblet. I ordered one on amazon to make my vesper’s but it turned out to be tiny.
I looked all over and found just one at the local HomeGoods. Wish they had more because I’d buy a lot of them. I’m still looking for a complete set of something similar but finding the right shape glass is difficult. For your searches, try looking up “Marie Antoinette glass” Best of luck!
